Babe Ruth stars lose

VISALIA, Calif. - Carson City's Babe Ruth 14-year-old all stars lost their opener 10-9 to Orcutt, Calif., at the Southwest Regional on a scorching Thursday afternoon.

Carson outhit Orcutt, the Central California representative, 12-6, but Carson pitchers also surrendered 10 walks and committed seven errors in the game, which was played in 105-degree heat.

Carson gave up six runs on only one hit in the final inning.

"We had every chance to win the game," Carson coach Carl Henry said. "We just broke down and gave away some runs with errors."

Aaron Henry was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and 3 RBIs, while Scott DeFriez was 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs.

Carson plays next in the double-elimination tournament at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Arroyo Grande, the Southern California representative.
