A Carson City man was sentenced to four months in Carson City jail after admitting to a charge of escape.

Joseph Lee Erwin, 22, slipped out of a set of handcuffs during a June 22 arrest and ran from the back of a patrol car.

During sentencing, Erwin told Griffin he had a drinking problem and needed to get help.

Judge Michael Griffin gave Erwin credit for time served and the opportunity to earn time for good behavior.

However, he said, it is up to Erwin to seek counseling.

"Mr. Erwin, it's your life, not anyone else's," Griffin told the man.
