Four cadets from the Carson High School Naval Junior ROTC unit recently completed a leadership academy at the Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Wash.

Marisol Fuentes, Michael Graves, Joshua Greenspan and Brandon Luterick earned their silver aiguiletes along with more than 100 cadets from other NJROTC units.

Representing high schools from seven states, each cadet was selected to attend based on overall performance in the NJROTC program, including demonstrated leadership, physical fitness and military aptitude.

Fuentes earned the top honor as one of four honor cadets, the first time a Carson City cadet has been selected for this award at the Northwest Leadership Academy.

During the week, cadets participated in leadership classes, military drill and inspections, swimming, physical fitness, athletic competition and a day at the Island County ROPES/Challenge course
