Lt. Col. Jeffrey Rauh of Carson City recently assumed command of the 2nd Battalion, 99th Troop Command in ceremonies held at the Nevada Army National Guard's Washoe County Armory.

Rauh relieved Lt. Col. Steven Brown, who has been commander for the past 18 months. A member of the National Guard since 1971, Brown will assume a new assignment in the United States Property and Fiscal Office in Carson City.

The 2nd Battalion which was formed in 1999, controls training, personnel, logistics and support for eight subordinate Nevada Army National Guard units located in the Reno-Carson City area.

During the past summer, the battalion assisted Nevada with fire-fighting efforts, disaster relief, search and rescue and support to local law enforcement. The battalion has also deployed Nevada citizen soldiers overseas to the Balkans, Europe and Central America.

The new commander brings 17 years of military service to his new position. Rauh received his commission through the Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Ga. in 1984.
