Music will flow from the Capitol grounds Sunday as the fourth annual Concerts on the Capitol series kicks off.

The free concert features the Northern Nevada Blue Grass Association this Sunday. Festivities start at 5 p.m. and end around 8 p.m.

Last year the series drew an average crowd of 300, said event organizer Shirley Adshade-Sponsler.

"This is a very laid-back event," she said. "People come to relax, enjoy their families and enjoy their music. It's a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a picnic dinner."

Concerts will be every Sunday through August 13. Bands scheduled to appear are:

- July 16, Erika Paul Trio

- July 23, Sweetwater

-July 30, Keuch

- Aug. 6, Buckin' Band

- Aug. 13, Dennis Steele Jazz Band

Adshade-Sponsler said she hopes the variety of music will pull people downtown.

"The music seems to appeal to most ages," she said. "This gives people something different to do on Sunday evenings that is relaxing and gets them downtown."

The concerts are traditionally funded with $3,000 from the Carson City Redevelopment Authority, but this year Carson-Tahoe Hospital and Nevada Bell both donated $1,000 for the event, Adshade-Sponsler said. Money is spent on advertising, management, a SaniHut on site and for the bands.
