Firefighters respond to Carson fire

Carson firefighters responded at about noon Sunday to a 1/4-acre brush fire near the corner of Long and State Street, started by three juveniles playing with fire.

Three trucks and two support vehicles from the Carson City Fire Department responded to the blaze, which could have threatened nearby Long Street Townhouse apartments according to Fire Department spokesman Stacey Giomi. Firefighters quickly contained the fire.

There will be no prosecution due to the juveniles' age, but they will be attending a fire safety tutorial, said Sergeant Ken Sandage of the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

"I hope that by our presence, the media and the engines, they know this is serious," Sandage said.
