The Gold Runners finished the season with an outstanding 11-1 record as they beat a tough Thunderbird team 4-0 in American Youth Soccer Organization Division V action.

The Gold Runners started off strong in the first quarter. Blake Moreland drove the ball up the right side of the field and sent a pinpoint crossing pass to a cutting John Nuthall. Nuthall fired the ball into the net for a quick 1-0 lead.

Moreland followed by going up the middle of the field, splitting the Thunderbird defense and sending the ball into the center of the net. The Gold Runner defense led by Darren Guzzetta, Tyler McCarty and goalie Timmy Karpe held tight through the quarter.

The second quarter began with Moreland taking a pass from Alex Fuentes and delivering his second goal of the game. As the second quarter was coming to a close, Moreland stole a pass at midfield and sent the ball up to Matt Nuthall.

Nuthall dribbled through three defenders and placed a shot past a diving goalie to put the Gold Runners up 4-0 at the half. The Gold Runners were led on defense by Garrett Meyer and Andrew Ortiz.

The second half was a defensive struggle. The Gold Runner defense led by John Nuthall and Moreland held a hard charging Thunderbird offense scoreless.
