With a record 38.9 million travelers planning to trek at least 100 miles from home this past holiday weekend, Americans going over the hill and through the woods seem undeterred by months of gas pains at the pump.
Four out of five people - 31.6 million travelers - will journey by car, the American Automobile Association reported.
The 4 percent increase in travel plans dismisses an average 28-cent hike in the cost of gasoline throughout the United States.
The price of a gallon of self-serve unleaded fuel is currently $1.54 - two cents lower than a month ago but still much higher than a year ago.
The monthly AAA Nevada gas price survey Tuesday showed the average Carson City price for a gallon of unleaded was $1.88, down 4 cents from mid-October.
The price at Eagle Gas and Gas and Save stations dropped even more, from $1.74 a month ago to $1.67 Tuesday afternoon.
Other self-serve unleaded prices in Carson City included $1.78 at the AM-PM at 4190 South Carson St., $1.76 at the Short Stop Market at 1321 North Carson St., $1.86 at Carson City Shell at 1600 North Carson St. and $1.77 at the Seven-Eleven at 3701 North Carson St.
The November average for Nevada was $1.82, with Reno's average at $1.87, Las Vegas at $1.77 and Elko at $1.76.
The national average was just $1.55, while the price in Northern California was $1.92, AAA reported. A year ago, Nevadans were paying $1.42 a gallon while the national average was $1.28.
California averaged $1.37, AAA stated. Currently, the Golden State comes in with some of the highest gas prices with an average of $1.81. San Francisco takes the notorious distinction of having the highest prices in the state at $2.01, while Sacramento teeters around $2 a gallon.
