Home in Washoe burns

Neighbors came to the aid of an unidentified elderly woman after her single-wide mobile home caught fire at 3765 White Pine Drive in Washoe City on Sunday. Although nobody was injured, a dog may have lost its life in the fire.

"Four or five of these neighbors and myself broke our way through a gate and helped the woman out of the house," said Ernie Morris, a neighbor who also lives on White Pine Drive. "We went back in for the dog but it ran away from us toward the back of the house."

Reno Chief of Operations Marty Scheuerman said five engines and two brush trucks responded to the incident at approximately 5:30 p.m.

"Our main concern upon arrival were the structures to the East due to the high winds," said Scheuerman.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials believe the fire originated near the southeast side of the trailer.
