Archaeologists spent Monday removing bones found Friday morning after receiving permission from the property owner.

Today, workers are scheduled to continue digging a water and sewer trench that cut through six graves on the property at Roop and Moody.

The site was once part of Lone Mountain Cemetery and was known as the Chinese cemetery.

It was also the burial place for indigent and minorities in Carson City.

Because the site is on private property, the owner can chose to rebury any grave sites uncovered in future excavations, according to Nevada State Museum archaeologist Cindy Southerland.

She estimated that it has been about a century since the abandoned portion of the cemetery had been used.
