The Carson City Sheriff's Department is participating in a nationwide crackdown focusing on drunken driving and drivers who allow their children to ride unrestrained.

The crackdown starts today and continues through Dec. 20.

According to new research from the Centers for Disease Control, most children under the age of 14 killed in alcohol related accidents are riding with a drunken driver rather than riding in a vehicle hit by a drunken driver.

Sheriff's deputies have been instructed to have zero tolerance for this type of infraction.
