Letter: Simons no less qualified for office

In response to Eugene T. Paslov, former superintendent of public instruction.

Jeanne Simons may not be as seasoned as Bonnie Parnell, but that does not mean she is less qualified. For myself and many other parents, Jeanne was a guide through the bureaucratic red tape of the public school system. When we ran into walls, Jeanne helped open the doors. Thank goodness there was someone who cared and was willing to inform us of our rights!

Mr. Paslov is guilty of the common defense used by people in his profession, attack and attempt to discredit. Since when is the PTA considered a "fringe group?" Perhaps you were speaking of the support group for parents of children with ADD and ADHD. Do you consider that a "fringe group?"

If neither of these, then which fringe groups were you speaking of? Is it possible that you don't have all the facts? Or are you just distorting the truth? Your scathing criticism of Jeanne Simons had the flavor of bitterness and revenge. I for one don't buy it.

Jeanne has always been a concerned member of this community, her lobbying efforts appreciated by many, including myself. I've known Jeanne for 25 years and have no doubts in her ability and willingness to effectively and fairly perform the duties of the office.

Just because she hasn't been a teacher doesn't mean that she doesn't care about children, and it certainly doesn't mean that she can't do the job!
