Letter: Van driver almost runs over children

My wife and I promised our son who is 7 years old to take him to see "Rugrats in Paris" on Friday, Nov. 23. When we got to the theater at 1 p.m. for the 1:30 p.m. show, the line was stretched across the parking lot some six or seven parking spaces deep.

After explaining to the children that we will have to be patient and wait our turn, we lined up with the rest of the people in line. When we got to the part of the parking lot that is open for cars to pass back and forth in front of the theater, a green minivan approached the line.

Instead of stopping and allowing us time to give him room to pass, the driver slowed to a speed of 5 or 6 mph and proceeded to drive into the line of parents and children, most of whom were in the age group of 5 to 10 years of age.

After almost hitting my son with the outside mirror on one side and almost hitting another child on the other side, a parent behind me got the driver to stop the van. The driver then rolled down the window on the passenger side and proceeded to yell at all of us for being in his way.

Granted we were blocking the path of the access road. However, I do not see why the driver could not have either waited for us to completely get our children out of the way or taken a few extra minutes to drive around the line by going up one of the other access roads. I would also like to mention that the driver was very rude and had a bad attitude.

As I write this, I am wondering if this driver even stops for school buses and crosswalks.
