A Carson City man received a suspended sentence Tuesday after admitting to a charge of conspiracy to commit sexual assault.
Alberton Garcia-Lopez, 33, was sentenced to 1-3 years in Nevada State Prison, but Judge William Maddox suspended the sentence for three years.
Garcia-Lopez was arrested July 26,1999, for allegedly rubbing himself against an 11-year-old girl related to his wife at his Hot Springs Road apartment.
Maddox said supporters who wrote on behalf of Garcia-Lopez persuaded him not to put the man behind bars.
"I might have just sent you (to prison) if not for these letters," he said.
Maddox ordered that Garcia-Lopez not be left alone with any children except his own.
