TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. - A Marine Corps pilot ejected safely from an attack jet after it landed at a desert airfield Friday.

The FA-18 Hornet pilot was hospitalized for observation at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, according to a base statement.

The reason for the ejection was under investigation. The aircraft had just landed on the base's expeditionary airfield, which simulates primitive takeoff and landing conditions.

The pilot was identified only as a member of Fighter Attack Squadron 115 from the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, S.C.
