The Mentor Center of Western Nevada is now registering mentor-candidates for the second training session. Summer training begins on August 8th and will be held four consecutive Wednesday evenings on the Western Nevada Community College campus.

National studies show that mentoring during a 12-month period can reduce juvenile crime, increase scholastic performance and reduce the incidence of alcohol and drug abuse.

Becoming a certified mentor consists of completing an interview, background checks and a series of training seminars. The mentor-mentee commitment is for a minimum of one hour per week.

For details or to register, call Susan Joy Edwards at 445-3346 or visit the Center's Web site at www.wncc.nevada.edu/mentor/.
