FALLON - Churchill County students will no longer be allowed to wear nose rings, tongue studs or eyebrow jewelry to school.

The items are prohibited under a stricter dress code approved by the school board.

The code also forbids sweat pants except in physical education classes and symbols on clothing relating to gangs, Satan, drugs and alcohol.

Board members considered a plan to require school uniforms, but decided a tougher dress code would address their concerns.

The board also decided to adopt a dress code for teachers for the first time, the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard newspaper reported.

Under the policy, teachers may no longer wear tank tops, sweatsuits, collarless T-shirts or Spandex. Shorts may not be worn more than 4 inches above the knee.

Board members said they're imposing the code for teachers in an effort to provide appropriate role models for students.

Board members said they're hoping for equal and consistent enforcement of the new standards.
