North Las Vegas councilman John Keith Rhodes, 35, has been indicted on charges he made a false insurance claim and obtained money from it under false pretenses.

He will be arraigned Aug. 31 in Clark County District Court.

According to the Attorney General's Office, Rhodes reported losing a Rolex watch, a diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band in a July 1997 robbery. He was paid $5,250 by the insurance company.

"An investigation revealed that Rhodes did not live at the residence, nor did he have property at the time," according to state investigators. "The physical evidence also suggested that a burglary did not occur."

A spokesman for the Attorney General's Office said this is the second time Rhodes has been indicted on insurance charges this year. He was accused in May of trying to obtain money under false pretenses in a separate residential burglary claim totaling $10,200.
