Obituary: George Ernest Austin

A memorial service for George Ernest Austin, 83, a Carson City resident for the past 16 years, will be at noon Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

Mr. Austin died Aug. 27, 2000, at his home. He was born April 11, 1917, in Dewey, Okla., to Herbert Leroy and Martha Spurgeon Austin.

He married Betty Glover June 14, 1980, in San Francisco.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in San Francisco.

Mr. Austin was a retail clerk in the grocery business. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Carson City.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Richard and sisters Alta, Alma and Beverly.

Among his survivors are his wife Betty of Carson City; son Kenneth N. of Concord, Calif.; stepson Jack Gregory Gordon of Spokane, Wash.; daughters Marjorie Austin Beckman and Jane Ellen Austin, both of of Vacaville, Calif.; stepdaughter Gerrylynn Gordon of Carson City; brother Wendell of Springfield, Ore., Raymond of Coos Bay, Ore. and Darrel of Carson City; sisters Goldie Lasure of Dewey, Okla., Laura Roderick of Eugene, Ore., Margaret Taylor of Bremerton, Wash. and Bernice Bishop and Barbara Bishop, both of Coos Bay; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
