Linden Edward "Red" Snyder, 77, a Carson City resident for the past seven months, died Dec. 10, 2000, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Michigan to Thomas and Gwendolyn Lawrence Snyder.
He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a bachelor's of science degree in chemical engineering.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Palisade, Colo., for 15 years.
Mr. Snyder enjoyed a long and successful career in metallurgy, during which time he developed and patented an electrolytic method for processing titanium. He consulted with scientists in Japan and France regarding his innovations. He was a past member of the Masonic Loge in Craig, Colo., and the American Chemical Society. He enjoyed international travel, fishing and a good steak at Adeles.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a communications officer in the European Theatre, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances Snyder who died in 1985 in Grand Junction, Colo.
Among his survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law Linda E. and Thomas Y. Johnson of Carson City and Gail and Lee Pierce of Lakewood, Colo., and grandchildren TomiJo Johnson, Jesse Noyes and Carolee Pierce.
A private memorial service will be held.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
