Silverstate Health Testing and Screening held today at Smith's in Carson City

Silverstate Health Testing and Screening, in cooperation with Smith's Food and Drug Stores, will be at Smith's in Carson City today from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Screenings of carotid arteries (check for plaque buildup, the major cause of stroke); abdomen aorta (check for enlargement-aneurysm), kidneys (check for stones and cysts), liver (cysts and abnormalities), gallbladder (check for stones) and osteoporosis (bone density) will be performed. Total cost for the screenings is $125.

The diagnostic ultrasound screening takes about 15 minutes and is non-invasive and completely painless. The astronauts took this same equipment with them on the space shuttle. The osteoporosis equipment has been approved by Medicare and the FDA.
