Special Olympics of Nevada is in need of volunteers to coach and officiate Special Olympic games, develop year-round training programs, help with fund raising, participate on various citizen committees and provide administrative assistance.
There are currently more than 20,000 children and adults in Clark County with mental retardation. Special Olympic programs provide an opportunity for these athletes to improve their overall physical fitness and sport skills, enhance their self-confidence and social abilities, become better prepared for independent living and improve friendships and family relationships.
Volunteer orientations will take place in Las Vegas at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Community College of Southern Nevada Charleston Campus, Bldg. B, Room 105; 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Community College of Southern Nevada Henderson Campus, Bldg. C, Room 133 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Community College of Southern Nevada Cheyenne Campus, Main Building, Room 1212.
Similar orientations will be given in Reno, 6 p.m. Aug. 3 at the North East Community Center, 1301 Valley Road; Winnemucca, 7 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Sparetime Bowling Center, 777 S. Bridge and Elko, 2 p.m. Aug. 5, at Great Basin College, Health Science Building, Room 108, 1500 College Parkway.
Information will be presented at these orientations on specific volunteer opportunities at the chapter and local program level.
