Spooner Lake hosts women's fly clinic

On Sunday, Spooner Lake will host a women's flycasting clinic from 10 a.m. until noon.

The clinic is designed to teach women the fundamentals needed to get started in this specialized sport.

Topics will include: How to set up a rod, choosing the right fly, the fundamentals of casting, reading waters, necessary knots and proper catch and release techniques

Reservations are required and can be made prior to Saturday by calling Spooner Lake at 749-5349.

The cost is $60 per participant.

Participants need to bring their own fly rod (optional), plenty of water, snacks and they need to possess a valid Nevada fishing license,

The instructor will be Nina McLeod, a former international champion in flycasting accuracy and distance. She has instructed all levels of flycasting in San Francisco, Hope Valley and at Spooner Lake.

Spooner Lake is locate just north of the junction of U.S. 50 and Nevada S.R. 28 at Spooner Summit, west of Carson City.
