NEW YORK - A 2-year-old boy and eight others were shot, one fatally, during a crowded block party early Sunday.

The shooting, for which police had no motive, occurred at about 1:25 a.m. in the Bronx, a borough of New York.

A man in his 20s was arrested a few hours later for alleged possession of a .45-caliber revolver. It was unclear what role he had in the shooting or how many shooters were involved, police said.

The 2-year-old was shot in the leg. The other survivors, men and boys ranging in age from 16 to 37, were shot in their backs, legs and buttocks, police said, and were hospitalized in stable condition. A man in his 20s was killed.

A 28-year-old woman running from the scene was hit by a car, police said. She suffered cuts and bruises but was not seriously hurt.
