Unbeaten Utes beat Wolf Pack women

Kristina Andersen had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Elko product Lauren Beckman added 13 as the undefeated University of Utah women defeated Nevada 62-58 Saturday afternoon in Salt Lake City.


The Utes (8-0) took a 27-21 halftime lead and held on the rest of the way at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.


The Wolf Pack, who dropped to 3-4, were led by Angie Heer's 20 points, including 11 in the second half. Heer shot 7-of-14 from the field and 5-of-9 from behind the 3-point arc. Teammate Kate Smith scored 16 points. Ashlee Orndorff didn't score, but she led the Wolf Pack with nine rebounds.


Beckman shot 7-for-8 from the free throw line to finish with 13 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. The 6-foot-2 junior was Nevada's Gatorade Player of the Year for Elko in 1997.
