A new course this fall at Western Nevada Community College focuses on understanding the language of theater - plot, character, setting, costume, gesture, sound effects and more. "Play Structure and Analysis" is designed to deepen theatergoers' understanding of plays.

"Students will read, discuss and analyze plays, take part in theater exercises and dramatizations of scenes and share their responses to plays," instructor Dr. Ursula Carlson says.

"Steel Magnolias" and "Pygmalion" (upon which "My Fair Lady" is based) will be explored, and students will be invited to a backstage look at the creation of the shows that will be performed this fall by the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company.

Class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30-1:45 p.m. in Aspen Building 211 beginning Aug. 28. Cost is $139.50. Register on the Internet at www.wncc.nevada.edu or by telephone at 887-3130. For information call the WNCC Performing Arts Office at 445-4249.
