Carson City will host one fireworks show this year, combining resources from previous years' shows.

Carson fireworks will be launched from the grounds of Carson High School for viewing from Mills Park. There will be no Ormsby House fireworks show, but Al Fiegehen and Don Lehr, owners of the hotel/casino, are sponsoring the Mills Park show.

The Ormsby House owners approached Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and offered to pay for the fireworks so the community could have its own celebration this year, said Janice Ayres of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP.

At the lake, fireworks will be set off from a floating dock about a mile off Stateline on the south shore of Lake Tahoe, starting about 9:30 p.m. Visible from Camp Richardson to Nevada Beach, the Tahoe show includes synchronized music on the radio.

Virginia City will have no fireworks this year but will host a full day's activities, starting at 1 p.m. with a traditional 4th of July parade. Parade participants will form up at the Fourth Ward School at noon.

A barbecue will take place at Miners Park from 11 a.m to 4 p.m., featuring burgers, hot dogs, salad, and beans for $5. The park has lots of shade trees and a playground. Later that night, The Comstock Cowboys will play at a steak dinner and dance at the Old Train Depot on E Street from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. A Colt 44 pistol is among the door prizes being raffled off. Tickets are available at the Old Washoe Club and Muldoon's, $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks is setting off fireworks off the top of the parking structure next to the theatre, starting at 9 p.m. A shuttle from Rail City will run from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

In Reno fireworks will be set off in Rancho San Rafael Park at 9:30 p.m., if winds permit. Beforehand, live bands will be playing starting at 6 p.m.

Genoa will present its Pops in the Park at Mormon Station. A silent auction starts at 2 p.m., the Silver Dollar Chorus sings at 3 p.m. and the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at 5 p.m.
