Area students win county spelling bees

Several area students, winners of their county spelling bees, will compete in the Nevada State Spelling Bee at 9:15 a.m. today at the University of Nevada, Reno, Old Building Room 103.

The State Spelling Bee is the preliminary competition to determine who will be Nevada's representative at the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May. One student from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades will be selected.

Representing Carson City School District are: James Woodmancy, sixth grade; Amanda Carvin, seventh grade; Cassia Roth, eighth grade.

Churchill County School District: Bailey Vochatzer, sixth grade; Caleb Boddington, seventh grade; Jo Horne, eighth grade.

Douglas County School District: Christine Young, sixth grade; Aaron Peneueta, seventh grade; Jen Anker, eighth grade.

Lyon County: Mike Crow, eighth grade.

Storey County: Devon Wheeler, sixth grade; Mark Baugh, seventh grade; Lane Mortensen, eighth grade.

Washoe County School District: Alex Ruud, sixth grade; T.J. Tutay, seventh grade; Sisi Song, eighth grade.
