As part of the Safe Schools program, AT&T and Ericsson phones will provide 24 mobile phones to 12 Douglas County schools.

The program began in 1997 and provides free wireless phones and airtime to K-12 schools for a one-year period.

"It is vital that our nation's schools be safe and supportive learning environments. Our children can't learn unless they are in an environment that is safe and secure," said Dan Hesse, president and chief executive officer of AT&T Wireless Services.

The Carson City schools received these services in September.
