Ed Bernstein will formally announce his run for U.S. Senate in Reno and Las Vegas press conferences Monday.
Bernstein has been an unofficial candidate for the Democratic nomination to replace Richard Bryan for several months. His name came to the forefront after Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa dropped out of the race.
Bryan announced last year that he planned to retire from the U.S. Senate at the end of his second term this year.
Republican John Ensign, who was defeated in his attempt to unseat Sen. Harry Reid in 1998, has already announced for the GOP nomination.
Bernstein will make his Reno announcement in the University of Nevada, Reno's Morrill Hall.
