This time, Fairfield made sure the game would not be lost on a last-inning rally.

Pedro Santiago, Larry Lewis and Cliff Lindgren combined to bang out nine hits as Fairfield, Calif., scored 10 runs in the first five innings to take charge en route to an 11-3 victory against the Carson Capitols in the finale of a four-game summer baseball series at Carson High School's Ron McNutt Field.

The Capitols, now 15-2 overall for their season, won the first two games of the weekend by a combined 28-1 score, but the last two games were a different story. The Capitols won the second game of Saturday night's doubleheader, but needed Jonathan Fender's three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 6-5 decision.

Sunday, the Californians scored twice in both the third and fourth innings and then scored five times in the fifth to take a 9-3 lead.

Lewis hit 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and one RBI, while Santiago and Lindgren added three hits each.

The Capitols had five hits, including two each by Dan Gubbels and Joe Jacobitz. Gubbels hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

John Fender started on the mound and absorbed his first loss of the summer.

Carson hosts Feather River College for two single games on Tuesday and Wednesday. The games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Carson High.
