Carjack update

Bail for a suspected Sacramento carjacker arrested Saturday in Carson City was set at $40,000 during his justice court arraignment Monday.

Justice of the Peace John Tatro said Theodore McQueen's prior record, which includes a conviction for failing to appear in court, made a reduction in bail unwise.

McQueen, 21, was arrested in a South Carson Street parking lot for suspicion of possession of a stolen 1992 Plymouth Colt van.

Upon searching the van, deputies reportedly found a number of checks belonging to the van's owner, a prescription narcotic and a 15-year-old Sacramento girl who had apparently run away with McQueen.

McQueen was subsequently charged with possession of forged instruments - the checks had been made out to a local business - illegal prescription drug possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The girl was also arrested.

McQueen's preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 13, at 3:30 p.m.
