Carson City will host the 71st annual State FFA Convention March 23-25 at the Carson City Community Center.

Nearly 450 Nevada high school students are signed up for next week's event, according to Jim Barbee, the program's state advisor.

This year's theme is "Super Heroes of the Future," and the convention will be run by the Nevada FFA state officers.

The students will participate in more than 30 career development events that will be organized by the University of Nevada, Reno, Western Nevada Community College and local and outlying businesses involved in agricultural industry.

These events span different areas from parliamentary procedure debate to nursery/landscape development and marketing.

The Nevada FFA Foundation will be hosting a millennium gala event that will bring supporters of agricultural education and former members to Western Nevada Community College for a benefit auction and dinner during the convention.

Michele Lewis is the executive director of the foundation and can be contacted for tickets and information at 265-6905.
