SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - Melissa Stone shut out South Tahoe on two hits as Carson High School rolled to a 13-0 Northern Nevada 4A League softball win Thursday at the Field of Dreams.

Carson erupted for eight runs in its first at-bat, benefiting from three Vikings errors and three walks from starter Vanessa Porter. Amanda Hoff highlighted the Senators' start with a grand slam.

"We got off to a slow start in the first inning, and then we couldn't hit the ball and made some errors," Vikings manager Rich Barna said. "If you don't hit the ball and you make errors, you lose games."

Tammy Cowen and Stefanie Terry did give the Vikings a few baserunners. Cowen singled in the third inning, and Terry doubled in the fourth.

Stone struck out nine before the 10-run mercy rule came into play in the fifth inning.

Nicole Freeman homered for Carson. Kellie Karasek, Chrissy Joseph and Gina Padilla all had two RBIs apiece for the Senators.

Carson (10-5) will host Lowry in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
