City board openings

If you're looking for an opportunity to serve Carson City, now's your chance. Positions are open on several city committees.

-- The Carson City Open Space Advisory Committee has two openings on the seven-member board effective in January. The open space committee is working on an open space master plan and after its adoption will begin looking at land to preserve as open space.

Terms are four years and applicants should expect a commitment of at least 10 hours per month. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 3 and supervisors will interview applicants Dec. 16.

-- The nine-member Parks and Recreation Commission has several openings. Commissioners adopts rules for parks and reviews and makes recommendations regarding the parks budget allocation of residential construction tax, and recommends policies on park and recreation services and other related.

Terms are for four years and applicants should expect a minimum commitment of 10 hours a month. Applications will be accepted until Dec. 3 and supervisors will interview applicants Dec. 16.

-- There are five openings on the Shade Tree Council. The council advises the board of supervisors on all tree-related issues in the city.

Terms are two years and applicants should expect a commitment of at least 10 hours per month.

-- Commissioners on Carson City's seven-member Regional Planning Commission serve a four-year term. The Planning Commission approves changes of land use, master plan amendments, street abandonments, special use permits, variances, subdivisions, etc. There is one opening on the commission.
