Brothers Chris and Shane Van Zant each picked up wins on Saturday as Dayton High beat Virginia City 11-10 and Smith Valley 10-1 to capture the Smith Valley Invitational Baseball Tournament.

Dayton had to rally with five runs in the bottom of the third in a time-shortened game in the opener to defeat the Muckers and advance to the championship against the Bulldogs.

In the opening game of the day, Chris Van Zant struck out the Muckers' side in the third to give Dayton a chance at the comeback. Dayton overcame a good day at the plate by Virginia City's Reggie Doing, who was 2-for-2 with 5 RBIs.

For Dayton, Clayton Friskey was 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs and a home run against the Muckers.

In the championship game against host-team Smith Valley, Shane Van Zant struck out 10 Bulldog batters to pick up the complete-game victory.

Leading the way for the Dust Devils at the plate were: Adam Sayre, 2-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBIs, and Shane Van Zant, 2-for-3 with a home run and RBI.

Dayton's record is now 8-1. The only Dust Devil loss was to Fernley.
