LAS VEGAS - Sophomore guard Joe Heaton knocked down three 3-pointers in the second half to ignite a surge that lifted the Galena High School boys' basketball team to a 53-39 victory against Campbell Hall in opening-night play at the Reebok Las Vegas Invitational on Saturday.

Galena outscored the Vikings from Hollywood, Calif., 29-15 in the second half to break open what had been a nip-and-tuck contest at Durango High School. The score was tied at the intermission, 24-24.

"We came out in the second half and just picked it up with our full-court pressure," said Galena coach Tom Maurer, whose Grizzlies improved their season record to 8-2.

Heaton scored nine of his 15 points in the second half, all on those 3-pointers. Mike Atkinson also scored 15 points for the Grizzlies.

Galena resumes play in the 54-team Reebok tournament on Monday afternoon.
