Last year we were driving from Kansas City home to Carson City over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The most impressive and memorable sight on that trip was the sight of Old Glory flying high from almost all businesses and many, many homes in every city, town and hamlet. (Yes, more often than not, we leave the interstates and take the business loop through towns. What better way to really see this country!)

Sadly, when we arrived home there were only three or four flags dislayed, excluding those on city and state offices where they fly daily. I experienced the same disappointment on the Fourth of July. It was the same on Memorial Day this year.

There are always grand sounding plans to make Carson City a town to remember and they usually come with a hefty price tag. This is the height of the tourist season. Wouldn't it be a wonderful sight for visitors passing through, as well as us locals, to see our flag flying from every business and storefront from Kmart to Wal-Mart.

My heart beats faster just to imagine driving the length of Carson Street through a sea of red, white and blue! Come on, Chamber of Commerce and Carson City businesses! Let it be known we are proud of our historic past and proud to be Americans! Fly Old Glory from July 1 through July 4!
