Locals honored with Anderson scholarships

The Joshua L. Anderson Memorial Foundation has awarded college scholarships to 12 Northern Nevada High School graduates who were outstanding high school baseball or softball players while achieving academic excellence and maintaining a high level of community and school activities.


The 12 recipients are Corrine Ceresola and Erin Lord from Reed High School, Joshua Orr from Lowry High School, Kimberly Gitthens and Kyle Wentz from Douglas High School, Tiffany Kristie from Galena High School, John Fahrendorf and Justin Ryckebosch from Reno High School, Adam Pruitt from Hug High School, Martin Hagar from Manogue High School, Emily Roesler from Fernley High School and Carrie Kordonowy from Dayton High School.


The Joshua L. Anderson Memorial Foundation has awarded 86 different $2,000 scholarships to Northern Nevada athletes from 23 different high schools since its inception in 1993.


Josh Anderson was a 1991 graduate of Reno High School. He played baseball at Reno National Little League, Reno West Babe Ruth, Reno High School, Reno Knights American Legion and DeAnza College in Cupertino, Calif.


Anderson died June 25, 1992, of Sudden Death Syndrome shortly after pitching in the University of Nevada, Reno summer baseball tournament.
