With the start of construction on the Carson City bypass a few months away, the Nevada Department of Transportation has issued a newsletter and set up a Web site to help keep residents informed.

"We want as much public outreach as possible," said Scott Magruder of NDOT. "It's part of the public involvement program to let people know exactly what we're doing."

He said the newsletter will be issued quarterly with updates on the bypass construction project and that the web site at www.ccfreeway.com will be updated whenever new information is available, including possible traffic delays caused by construction work.

"It's our attempt to keep people up on the disruption once construction starts," said Magruder.

He said money for the newsletter, Web site and other information efforts is all part of the engineering consulting contract for the project. There will be a hotline at 828-4797 to answer questions about the project or about delays and other problems the work may cause and, eventually information kiosks at a couple of places around town.

Magruder said for those not on the Internet, the newsletters will be available at places around town, including city offices, the Carson Chamber of Commerce, NDOT's lobby on Stewart Street and Western Nevada Commmunity College.

Phase one of the bypass project will construct 3.8 miles of freeway from the north end of town at Arrowhead Drive to Highway 50. Work will start with the four bridge structures at College Parkway, Northgate Lane, Emerson Drive and Arrowhead Drive.
