The old Nigerian finance ministry scam has reached Northern Nevada.
The perpetrators call, fax or Email some one claiming to represent the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Finance. They offer the victim a chance to claim some of a $96 million pot of money in return for sending them money.
Several people in Northern Nevada have reported being contacted by the scam artists involved.
State investigators say what actually happens is that the victims get their bank accounts cleaned out.
Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said the Nigerian government has not been cooperative in trying to stop the scam. She said Nevadans should be wary of any deal like this which sounds too good to be true.
