A memorial service for Donald Harold Whitford, 78, a Carson City resident for the past six years, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church.
Mr. Whitford died Oct. 24, 1999, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born May 28, 1921, in Arcadia, Neb., to Harley and Carrie Leach Whitford.
He married Peggye Byers in 1945 in Orange, Calif.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Rowland Heights, Calif.
Mr. Whitford was a retired printer. He enjoyed wood carvings, was an avid fisherman and played saxophone, guitar and ukelele.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1939-41.
Among his survivors are his wife of 54 years, Peggye, of Carson City; sons, Michael D., of Moreno Valley, Calif., Kenneth L., of Dayton and Richard E., Glenn A. and Dennis L., all of Carson City; daughter, Renee Meyer, of Carson City; sister, Maxeine Timme of Orange, Calif.; seven grandchildren and two nephews.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
