Obituary: John Benedict Devaney

John Benedict Devaney, 81, a Carson City resident for the past 17 years, died Nov. 14, 1999, at his residence. He was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Bayonne, N.J., to John Patrick and Mary Sweeney Devaney.

He attended Bayonne High School.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Jersey City, N.J.

Mr. Devaney was a canvasser for the U.S. Treasury in the Savings Bond Department. He was a member of the American Legion and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was a Roman Catholic.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46.

He was preceded in death by sister, Marion Clark and brothers, Charlie, Eddie and Frank.

Among his survivors are his wife, Elsie and son, John P., both of Carson City and brother, Jim, of Bayonne.

No service is scheduled at this time.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice of Reno.

Reno Memorial Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
