Obituary: Joseph R. Maruca

A Mass of Christian burial for Joseph R. Maruca, 85, a Carson City resident since August, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary to be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, both at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Maruca died Oct. 24, 1999, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born March 18, 1914, in New Bethlehem, Pa., to Ross and Jennie Maruca.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Aptos, Calif.

Mr. Maruca was a member of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America, Sons of Italy in San Jose, Calif. and the Elks Club. He was a Catholic and a member of St. Teresa of Avila. He liked to remodel old homes and to bowl.

Among his survivors are his wife, Josephine, of Carson City; sons, Joseph, of Campbell, Calif., James, of Manteca, Calif. and John, of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Jerry Burnett, of Manteca and Jeannine Sozza, of Carson City; brothers, Mike, of Rosemond, Calif. and Carmen, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sister, Mary Orobello, of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Crematory and Cemetery, is in charge of arrangements.
