Obituary: Marjorie M. Parrish

A memorial service for Marjorie M. Parrish, 79, a Gardnerville resident for the past 20 years, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Masonic Lodge, 113 E. Washington St.

Mrs. Parrish died Oct. 23, 1999, at Washoe Medical Center. She was born March 6, 1920, in Orosi, Calif., to A. Rush and Alice Shorten Martin. A native, she was born and raised on the family ranch in Orosi.

She graduated from San Jose State College with a degree in education.

Before moving to Gardnerville, she lived at South Lake Tahoe.

Mrs. Parrish began her teaching career after her children entered school. Her last teaching position was at South Lake Tahoe where she taught from 1959 until her retirement in the early 1980s. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, White Shrine and Eastern Star. She was secretary of the Merchant Marines and a volunteer at the Carson Valley Museum. She was a Pentecostal.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert K. Morris, in 1969, second husband, Ted Parrish in 1992 and granddaughter, Marjorie Morris.

Among her survivors are her daughters, Martha Harrington, of Lovelock, and Mary Morris, of Twin Falls, Idaho; sons, Marty Morris, of Lovelock, and Mark Morris, of Cashmere, Wash.; sister, Nan Roberts, of San Pedro, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at Sierra Crematory.
