Obituary: Virgil Tower

Virgil Leroy Tower, 85, a Carson City resident for the past 15 years, died Jan. 18, 2000 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Feb. 27, 1914, in Ann Arbor, Mich., to Harry M. and Ethyl Sarah Betts Tower.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Fresno, Calif.

Mr. Tower was a retired auditor for the insurance industry. He was also a glider pilot and was still flying solo up to the age of 82. He was a member of the World War II Glider Pilots Association.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a glider pilot and piloted the second glider to land in the invasion of Normandy and Holland. He received a Bronze Star and Air Medal with two clusters.

Among his survivors are his stepson Jack Seibold of Carson City; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

No service will be held.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
