Pedestrian killed walking out of Las Vegas restaurant

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Las Vegas police were trying to determine what caused a man to lose control of his vehicle in a bizarre accident that killed a man leaving a Burger King restaurant.

Detective Doug Nutton said James Mask, 88, of Las Vegas was driving north on a city street about 9:30 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle crossed the center lane and headed north in the southbound lanes. Mask's vehicle went toward the west curb and then struck a street light pole on the sidewalk.

The vehicle continued into a Burger King parking lot, where it struck a pedestrian walking out of the restaurant. Mask's car then struck a curb in the parking lot and overturned.

The pedestrian died at University Medical Center a short time later. Mask was in serious condition at the hospital.

The coroner's office was trying to determine the name and age of the victim.

The accident is under investigation.
