A 40-year-old Carson City pedestrian was stabbed in the abdomen early Saturday, reportedly by a passing motorist who stopped after throwing a bottle at the victim.

The victim, William Cavagnero, told Carson City Sheriff's deputies that he had been walking on the shoulder of Highway 395 near Clear Creek Road when the bottle was thrown at him from a dark-colored Subaru. The car stopped and two people got out.

One of them, described as an Hispanic male with hair cropped on top and a ponytail in back, confronted Cavagnero, stabbed him and then left southbound, according to the sheriff's department report.

Cavagnero reported the incident from his home in the 5400 block of South Carson Street.

When deputies arrived there, the knife was still embedded in his abdomen, the report said. He was taken to Washoe Medical Center by Care Flight helicopter and was listed in stable condition later Saturday.

While deputies were investigating the incident, they determined that two warrants were outstanding on the victim's wife, Laura Cavagnero, 38. She was arrested on warrants for felony theft and misdemeanor failure to pay fine and was held on $5,000 bail.
