Silver State Raceway kicks of its 2000 race season Saturday with qualifying and heat races for the annual Desert Rose 100, to be held Sunday. The race is an invitational for the late model sportsman division.

Over the past two Saturdays, more than 20 drivers have had their cars at the track testing and tuning for Sunday's opener. Heat races will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday to help determine Sunday's main event line up. Sunday's race is at 1 p.m.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday. The ticket booth for general admission spectators will open two hours before race time.

More than 20 cars are expected to race in Sunday's feature. Most entries received are local drivers, several entries from out-of-state drivers have also been received.

Traditionally, more than half of the 100-lap races have been won by local driver Craig Paulsen. Paulsen is considered one of the best at saving his tires, giving him an advantage in passing as the laps wind down.
