RENO - The Board of Regents has named Richard Moore president of Nevada's first State College in Henderson.

Moore, who is president of the Community College of Southern Nevada, will be the founding president of the college at Henderson, designed as an alternative between community college and university classes. The appointment will take place Jan. 15.

Moore was recommended by a search committee to start up the four-year state college which hopes to begin offering classes as early as September 2001. The college is designed to offer bachelor's degrees only and focus on specialties such as preparing public school teachers.

Regents who argued the college needs a president immediately to get development of its programs rolling named Moore at a special meeting Friday.
